If anyone is still interested in reading as friends, here is my choice for August:   The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, by Jacqueline Kelly.  It is an interesting book, one I just finished, with many darling moments. A little on the feminist side, it is still a fun, interesting, and well written book.  I hope you are all well!

1. Sweetness at the bottom of the pie by Allen Bradley, I think you will love Miss Flavia de Luce our spunky heroine.

2.  The Peace Giver by James Ferrel.  I haven't read this yet but am looking forward to the read.

January Book

Hi girls!

I hope you are enjoying the relief from the holidays. I know I am! There is nothing like nothing going on. Since I am a mother there is plenty going on when there is nothing going on!

I really wanted to read Don Quixote this month, but my library seems to have one copy, which is checked out. I am also going to turn on the repeat button which says, "it is hard to read right now." IT IS! But my kids elementary school is having their reading incentive program on Percy Jackson so I am going to try to read The Lightning Thief sometime soon. Will I get it done in two weeks? I doubt it. But maybe I can get my hands on it by then. I am sorry this is so late being posted. I kid you not, I have been trying to choose for about a week now. I was trying to decide on something on my shelf, since I missed getting one at the library last week. Today it finally dawned on me that this would be a rational choice for me, so I can get what's going on at my kids school.

I also recommend Rock Solid Relationships by Wendy Watson Nelson. I love this book and plan to read it bit by bit again this month. And lastly, please send recommendations! I am slow at reading them, but I love ideas, which is why I am hard pressed to pick a book myself. I usually read by word of mouth! :) Happy January!

Esperanza Rising by Ryan, Pam Munoz

Is anybody interested in reading a book this month? Here is what someone said about the book:

This exciting, well-written historical novel is based on the true-life experiences of the author's grandmother, Esperanza Ortega. Thirteen-year-old Esperanza and her newly widowed mother are forced to leave their fairytale existence at beautiful Rancho de las Rosas in Mexico, to live and work in a migrant worker camp in the San Joaquin Valley during the Great Depression. Adjustments to her new life are difficult for Esperanza¾the harsh living conditions and hard labor are so different from her earlier life of privilege and wealth, especially after Mama becomes seriously ill with valley fever. But like the phoenix in her beloved grandma's story, Esperanza endures, "Rising again, with a new life ahead..." The author does a very good job of portraying the caring and solidarity, as well as the hardships, of Mexican-American labor camps of the era. An author's note is included. Sorry for the delay - I didn't remember it was me until ShaLisa reminded me.  So I went to the Library and looked at the nominees for the Beehive Awards (since I usually enjoy some of them!).  And I have chosen 2 books.  I hope they are available at your library too.

August Book

Hello my friends, yes I do have a book (actually two in mind) so take your pick.  I know at least one of these has probably been read by all of you.  I am finding my perspective on excellent books then vs now has been worthwhile for me.  So, my picks are To kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee and My `Antonia by Willa Cather (I haven't read this one before).  If someone can put the book picture on my post it would be much appreciated.  ShaLisa, when is your due date?  I do sympathize those last days of pregnancy are so difficult.  Hang in there, the misery will pass soon.
