August Book

Hello my friends, yes I do have a book (actually two in mind) so take your pick.  I know at least one of these has probably been read by all of you.  I am finding my perspective on excellent books then vs now has been worthwhile for me.  So, my picks are To kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee and My `Antonia by Willa Cather (I haven't read this one before).  If someone can put the book picture on my post it would be much appreciated.  ShaLisa, when is your due date?  I do sympathize those last days of pregnancy are so difficult.  Hang in there, the misery will pass soon.

Yay! I love both of these books and would list them on my favorite books list! I can't wait to re-read them.

Horray, I want to reread both these books too! I even own them both so that makes it too easy.

My due date is TOMORROW and today I am gonig to UT (half way to Tremonton) to gather my children. Do you think I will have the baby on the road? Me either. I want him to come DESPERATELY but not during those 4 hours.

Thanks Amie for a book pick. Oh, and last night I finished Forge - part two of Chains. Thanks Lindsay for that selection. I am enjoying it a lot. Is Ashes out or do I have to wait? Don't answer. I can look it up. I really like Isabel and Curzon.

Still Pregnant,
ShaLisa

Today is the 9th and my due date was the 7th and I am not liking this one bit. Should I be induced? I have never wanted to do this but I am getting anxious. People tell me scary stories (such as a cord being wrapped around the baby not allowing him to drop) that make me want him OUT and SAFE! Should I worry? What do you all think?

Ready for Baby,
ShaLisa

Hi ShaLisa, I was induced with my last two and not because I wanted the baby out a week or two early. Both were after my due date and I know that I was at the end of my rope. Don't you think that everyday after the due date is about three weeks long? I haven't had a problem with the baby dropping etc. but you know how people and their horror stories are. I'm sure whatever you decide that things will probably work out just fine. Hang in there, I understand the frustration :) Ps, I started my antonia on Sat and finished yesterday, excellent book. I can't believe I haven't read it before. love, acw

I wanted to say that I finished To Kill a Mockingbird yesterday and I loved the book even more this time around, if that is possible. So many lessons, so much goodness (go Atticus!), so much to learn. I loved the book. There is so much to say that I don't know what to say. Atticus makes me want to be a different kind of parent. I trifle of the little things and that can't be character developing. He was raising children and not a bit concerned about society. I was impressed with his influence, tact and tolerance of his sister moving in. I loved his goodness towards his cook and I loved his devotion to integrity. So much....

I also finished to kill a mockingbird. And yes, what is there not to love. The characters are so endearing, lessons to be learned. ShaLisa you talk about being more like atticus in parenting. One of these things that stuck with me is the phrase "Its not time to worry yet" Worthwhile read! I also finished My Antonia, I've never read it and it was also a real treat.

So, I have a beautiful sewing table just like the one on this blog: dandawoodworking.blogspot.com
and now I really want a cutting table. Sometimes my reaping the benefits of the skills of others, especially my father's, makes me feel humble. Why is that? Is that the result of true art? After reading Song of the Lark, I have had artists in all their varieties on my mind. Who are the great artists and what is their influence on others? I also have the terrarium but I still have to put glass in it. And one son wants hermit crabs, one wants a gecko, one daughter wants a turtle and the other a tarantula (which is what my parents have in theirs). What would you choose? I love the table!

Alisha,

It is September now. Do you want to choose a book?

One more thing. I liked the quote about decent people but I can't remember it now. Do you remember, Amie? Something like, "decent folk are those that do the best they can with what they know." The point being that some people don't live as well as others or perform as well or makes good judgements, but that they are doing the best they can with what they know. I need to give people the benefit of the doubt because most often, people are not vendictive and purposefully hurtful, they are doing the best they can! Just like me. Atticus would say to walk a mile in their shoes....

Congratulations Amy!! What / Where are you working? I hope it is wonderful, you love it, and they treat you well (and pay you well also...)! Let us know how it is going? I have been so out of it with the book part of our book club that I feel a little sheepish recommending a book. (I did get My Antonia from the library and have even read a couple of pages... I am not sure if that is the most current book choice, but it is the one that I could remember while at the library--I hope to really read it...) Anyway, I figured that I would choose a book that we own, so as to increase my chances of reading it, so I have two options for you all. One, I have always wanted to read Grimm's Fairy Tales, however, I have heard that they are gruesome... So, I wanted ShaLisa's opinion, because she has probably read some of them (or anyone else that has read any of them) and let me know if they are not worthwhile to read. If anyone has any background to these please let us know before we all ruin the Disney fairytales as we know them. For my backup choice (so that I don't get banned from choosing any more books), I would choose The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. It is short and should be accessible through libraries, I think. My mother in law has told me that it teaches great morals, but I have yet to read it. So, that is it--hopefully my contribution to the book club will get me reading again. The only things I ever read are scriptures (how are you supposed to study all of the standard works, keeping in mind that you are supposed to always be reading the B of M, as well as RS lessons, Ensigns, conference talks...) and I like to read the books that my kids are reading, so that is about a 4th grade reading level... It would be nice to read something else of quality. I do like reading your comments about each book you read--it sounds like they are good ones and I am keeping a list for future use. Happy reading!!

I'm super excited about my new job. I will be doing Human Resources for Geneva Rock and their parent company Clyde Inc. I'll be helping out with recruiting and hiring. It was an unexpected change and happened really quick. Today was my last day and I start at Geneva on Monday morning. So hopefully I'll still be as excited new Friday night! I hope to read the biography - but I'm not sure I'll have a ton of reading time this next month. I've been listening to To Kill a Mockingbird in my car and I love it - but not finished yet! :)
Hope all is well with everyone!
