Dear Friends,
How are you? Are you ready for a summer reading list? I hope you don't mind, I have chosen three books for you to choose from. Read one or all, they are all books I have enjoyed for different reasons. So, lets read and then lets talk!
1. The Same kind of different as me (Ron Hall and Denver Moore)
2. Catching Fire (Suzanne Collins)
3. The Help (Kathryn Stocket)

I'm so excited for new books! I'm going to the library tomorrow. Thanks Amie.
Thanks Amie! It's nice to have recommendations, I'll check them out!
Amie, then have you read The Hunger Games? I heard this is a good read for boys, so I would like to preread it. Isn't Catching Fire the second in the series? I need to get to the library!

For those of you who haven't heard...I recently got engaged to Andrew McKinney. No wedding plans or dates picked yet...just trying to finish school first. But just FYI...
Cami
YAY!! Congrats Cami. :)
Amy
Cami--I am soooo excited for you!! I think you ought to share a little more information than his name...for those of us who don't know the details!! How did you meet, where is he from, how did he propose, where are you going to live, what is he studying / doing, what does he look like (feel free to post a picture if you feel comfortable)....??? I can't wait to hear all about it and come to your reception--you are having one, right? How about a shower for those of you around here? What good news...!! Congrats!
Cami,
I will come to a reception or a shower or a party. YOU ARE GETTING MARRIED! I am so happy for you. I ditto all of Alisha's questions. I want to hear MORE! I like to think that although years and distance have separated us, we all still remain the kindred spirits we were 10 years ago. CONGRATULATIONS!
Loving Marriage,
ShaLisa
ps How do you mothers out there deal with tattling??? Aaahhhrrrggg!!!
Amie,
Just so you know, I am on a lengthy waiting lists for those books and so I am going to read them in the coming months and miss June. Sorry.
Also, I LOVED the rock climbing story. Where is it posted? I did get it sent to me but it says it is on Despite the Distance and I can't find it there? You are so COOL!
Alisha,
How is your new baby???? What can you tell us about him? Are you prepared to pick a book for July? I hope so.
Needing a Shower,
ShaLisa
If someone will tell me/show me how I'll do an "Andrew" themed blog posting...

And for once, I read the book. Didn't like it as much as the first but I look forward to the third installment later this year.
Hi and thanks for a change of senery, Amy (right?)
I finished The Help and I liked the book a lot. My favorite theme of the book was the discovering of people. The white lady and her black maid were in the house together so many hours each day and knew so little about each other that you could see the barrier made out of lack of understanding and perspective. It was the unfolding of human tendency that brought one lady to care about another lady that I loved. When you understand a person in regard to their motives, their perspective, their sufferings, - it is hard not to begin to feel kindly towards them, even love them. But then there are the Hilly's and they seem only to want to tear everybody else down. They are the kind to ruin the chance for unity in our neighborhoods, wards, communities and sometimes, families. This book made me want to discover people - discover what they really believe. The book reminded me not to judge people. It made me believe that I should love people first.
Amie, you read the book right? Please review. What are your thoughts about the book? Anybody else read it?
Alas, I am unable to find a copy of The Same Kind of Different as Me and for some reason, I don't believe I want to read the Hunger Games. I have heard a lot about them - maybe I should be more open minded. Everyone who has said anything about them has commented about how wrapped up in the book they were - how they "couldn't put it down." Is that good? :)
With a Library Fine,
ShaLisa
Cami,
We are still waiting for your Andrew post. I can't wait to learn more about him and also about you.
Remembering Butterflies in the Stomach,
ShaLisa
ShaLisa! Just tell me HOW to make the post!
Hi girls, look I finally read the June book! :) I really enjoyed The Help and learned a lot from it about history and enjoyed the often accurate insights into people and their misunderstood lives. We never know all the ins and outs of people! Also interesting to me was the continued prejudices of the main character despite what she was learning about the maids. It's true, what we grow up learning is hard to forget, but it is possible to forget, with effort and relearning. Such a full book. Thanks for recommending it Amie!
I sure wish I could see you all!
Lindsay
