Yay! I've done one month of my goal...it's the first and I have my review of the book done! :)

I loved learning more about the Shakers. I had no idea that they had men and women live separately. That was very strange to me for some reason.

I loved when they were talking about gifts, which I’d call talents. I love that they believe that all are blessed with gifts and that we just have to find ours.

I did find the talk between Naomi and Joseph about prayer interesting. It really made me think about prayers and answers. I liked the quote from Naomi when she’s talking about when she prayed when leaving her aunt and leaving the Shakers. She says “Well, I asked what to do. And after a while the answer just slipped into my mind, as if it belonged there.” What a simple explanation.

Thank you Lindsay for choosing this book!

It is interesting to me how I can read a sentence in a book - a sentence surrounded by other senteces and it doesn't stand out but then someone, in this case Amy, writes it all by itself and it says amazing things. Thank you, Amy.

Here is another line from the book: "It's hard enough to comprehend the glimpses of God that touch your own life. Only a fool or a saint would presume to understand more than that, and I am neither." Sister Martha (p. 64). I like this because it reminds me that God talks to us differently and it is foolishness to assume God is talking to your friend or the person sitting next to you the same way or at the same time.

I liked the first half of the book better than the second. I suppose because I know what it is like to be a mormon, but not a shakeress.

Thank you, Lindsay, for this book.

Interested in the Shakers,
